The overcoats may be a VERY specific thing my day job used at this very specific store I figured I’d better explain in the comic about the process.
It’s one of those minor inconvenience things. I must stress, this fabric was a see through mesh and not a solid protective fabric. More on this later.

Damian continues to text as he hides from the counters in the enclosed section with the rotisserie ovens.
Damian: "Just giving you an update."
Mother: "Dinner is in the oven."
Damian: "thanks."

Damian puts his phone away and turns away with a sigh. "Great. She's now mad at me. Another thing to look forward to when I get home."

His overcoat peels away from the ovens he was leaning against to reveal a seeped in stain on his back. Note: Temporary overcoats are worn to protect from contamination when moving between raw and cooked food sections. They're made of a very thin material so you can still get stains from say, leaning against the ovens...

Damian moves back to the meat counter, removing his overcoat and washing his hands as he does so. He stands back at the meat counter, leaning against the counter side and sighing. It is quarter to five. He is spooked from his daydream as the phone nearby rings loudly.
