"Turns out Darrell is not able to work today."
Damian's brain screams NO ONE CARES in regards to life and everything. "Someone doesn't turn up to their shift: check."
He returns to the phone. "So... who is coming to cover me..?"
The answer from Kevin causes Damian to see red. "No one is coming. Tonight was already a tight ship before Darrell refused to come in."
NO ONE COMES TO HELP COVER: CHECK.
Kevin, on the other end of the phone, still, asks: "sooooo could you possibly... stay until the end of the day? I appreciate it's a lot to ask considering how long you've been here today. i wouldn't ask it if anyone else could do it. but we're a team, aren't we?"
