English/social language notes:
“I’d help but…” is in partial defence at not helping for a reason to avoid accusation (if the context is aggressive) but also the apology of “I would help if I could.” (if the context is apologetic)
However sometimes it puts a target on you as “Oh they CAN do it once they get trained, so therefore they can be trained and it’s their job now” – social mannerisms are complex and Ash fell victim to one. Ash thought he was being comforting but alas…
To jinx is to place a charm or spell on, “You’ll jinx it” tends to refer to the phrase “speak of the devil and he shall appear” so – “you’ll jinx it” here relates to “Say you have no costumers and you’ll get loads” as a spell/curse. See also Murphy’s/Sod’s law for this context.
Cj slumps. "It's so gross though..."
Ash tries to appear kind by saying "I'd do it but... but I don't know how."
Cj immediately standds to attentions, grabbign Ash by the shoulders with a shrill yell of DUDE. She warns him "Ash, don't volunteer yourself like that unless you actually want to do it..."
Without hearing them, Damian ponders "well... i's pretty dead here so... you could shadow CJ and learn how to?"
Cj flails her arms as Ash discovers his mistake.
Ash pleads "yeah but- what about the counters? And don't you wanna go on your break first?"
Damian stands firm. "not like we've had any customers today anyway. I can wait. Been doing it already."
A defeated Ash mutters an "oh."
Cj gestures to Damian jokingly. "You'll jinx yourself talking like that, Damian! Anyway- Ash"
She turns to Ash, grabbing him again. "You're gonna have so much fuuuuuun in the ovens with me..."
Ash whimpers "Why do you make that sound so ominous....? Should i be worried?"
He is being taken away by CJ. "Damian?!"
Damian smirks. "Thanks guys!"
